A moderate Muslim voice
AltMuslim is an interesting website run by a group of liberal and cosmopolitan Moslems - the type of people which any religion, Islam or otherwise, could do with more of.
They also do podcasts as well. One of the last podcasts they did explained about the website and what the contributors’ aims and intentions are. They also discuss Ayaan Hirsi Ali and her outspoken views on the Islamic faith and its treatment of women. They tend to regard the criticism of people like Ali as unhelpful i.e. instead of working with Moslems and helping them, her criticism only further alienates and polarises the situation (Ali is apparently no longer a practising Moslem).
They also made the point that the problem of Islamic fundamentalism can only be changed by the people within the faith itself and not by outsiders imposing their views of what they think Islam should be. An obvious point, but one which people can lose sight of at times.
Not everyone may agree with these views, but it is worth hearing what they have to say nonetheless.
