Winning hearts and minds
A textbook example of how not to win the hearts and minds of the local population in a guerilla war and yet another example of why America will never win in Iraq.
The grunt driving the humvee is doing what he thinks is necessary from his point of view to keep moving and avoid getting stuck in Baghdad traffic and thereby become a sitting duck for an ambush or IED. It involves using Grand Theft Auto style driving tactics to shunt out of the way any Iraqi driving his car who happens to be in his path. Just for good measure, he almost runs over a few pedestrians as well.
The upshot of all of this is the grunt and his colleagues get to complete one more mission unscathed. The downside of course is dozens of Iraqis are now even more pissed off at the Americans and their occupation of the country. Perhaps the grunt is oblivious to this, or perhaps, being on his 2nd or 3rd tour, he is long past the stage of caring what the fuck the Iraqis think.
