The unfortunate situation in the middle east
I tend to agree in principle with the Israeli response, but it should have been a lot more restrained. or perhaps they should have tried to do more behind the scenes work with the Lebonese government (maybe they did already try this, I don’t know). Or have given the Lebonese an ultimatim where if they didn’t hand over certain key Hezbollah leaders after a week or so, then the Israelis would respond with massive force. I would have also focused more on bombing Hezbollah’s puppet masters in Tehran and Damascus as well. They are the ultimate culprits in all of this.
But I understand the ferocious response from Israel, given that the Israeli people have their backs to the wall and are surrounded by people who think it’s their God-given right to anniallate every single Jew in the region and will stop and nothing to do this. I think it has gradually sunk in that Israelis will never be at peace and that a state of perpetual war is the only future they will face. So as a consequence, they have nothing to lose by striking back with massive force.
Israel may now be forced to occupy a buffer zone semi-permenantly in South Lebanon to reduce the threat from rockets. That is not going to be good for anyone. Hezbollah and their Iranian bosses have an awful lot to answer for.
