Finnish monsters rock Eurovision
The contest is usually won by some gay pop singer or some vacuous group of dancing bimbos, but this year it has been a triumph for metal. Lordi were seen as a joke act, a joke which many of the Eurovision voters seemed to get apparently.
A Finnish “horror rock” group who dress in monster costumes have pulled off a surprise win at the 51st Eurovision Song Contest in Athens.
European viewers voted for Lordi’s song Hard Rock Hallelujah in a show that is normally associated with catchy pop and big ballads.
Being a heavy metal band, they had to deny the inevitable accusations of Satanism…
The band were accused by some conservative Greek organisations of promoting Satanism but said they had no connection with the occult.
